How to get motivated even when you don’t feel like it?

We always aspired to be something, for example, a success engineer, programmer, manager, and so on. We usually start with an idea, a dream, a wish. When this desire start to take shape we realize that just an idea or desire doesn’t take us to the place we are looking for. Passing from the idea to the plan is the first step, at least, that’s worked for me. Establishing a plan, a realistic plan, is just the beginning for make your dream come true. However, a plan needs two thins, the first one, motivation, the necessary energy to roll out this gear we usually call “a plan”.

All of us have heard about motivation, it’s a common topic nowadays. But what exactly motivation is it? Many psychologists define it as the desire or impetus to initiate and maintain a specified behavior. As we mentioned before, it’s the energy or “the power” that allow you to achieve a goal. Personally, I like to define it as “the spiritual power”, I normally say “this thing will consume much spiritual power” to refer one stuff needs much motivation.

If the motivation is the energy, the power…, etc, is normal it has a limit, after all, we, the humans don’t know an infinite energy source yet. We may say “Yes, it’s God” according with San Agustin but this is a topic for other article. Thus, it looks like the understanding about how to maintain it is crucial. Many theorist classify in two broad categories: intrinsic an extrinsic.

Intrinsic motivation is related every activity that is and end by itself. This type comes form ourselves and it express our intern desires, every activity we really enjoy, for example, a like playing soccer, dancing, playing any video-games and so forth. Performing these tasks make us feel happy in the moment it occurs.

On the other hand the extrinsic motivation describes to perform a task as a means to and end, that is, complete one of multiple steps to achieve a goal have a reward.

Once said that, it’s fundamental a mix of both motivation types to reach our goals. It’s important to reach a balance between both. Enjoy the process keeping in mind the final goal what are you looking for. Nevertheless, the motivation is volatil, so we can no depends on just motivation, we need to build good habits that push and help to go ahead even if we are not feel like (motivation). Design one routine help us to strong our discipline to push ourselves in case motivation fails, and it’s always tend to fail.

In conclusion, we will not be motivated all the time, and it’s OK, it’s doesn’t mean we have something wrong we us, we are humans not robots. Learning and try time by time when we feel with low energy is the key that separates people who achieve their goals from who give up.
